Colossians 1:18
"And
He (the Lord Jesus Christ) is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the preeminence."

Ephesians 1:22-23
(The Lord Jesus Christ), "the
head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all."

Ephesians 3:9-10
"...God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: to the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known
by the church the manifold wisdom of God,"

The
"universal" church is comprised of all genuine born-again believers from the day the church, which is His body, came into existence in Acts ch. 2, until the event of the "catching up" of the saints in 1Thessalonians 4:16-17.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His body.

Acts 9:31
"Then had
the churches rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied."

Acts 11:26
"...that a whole year they assembled themselves with
the church, and taught much people, and the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch."

Acts 2:42
"And
they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers."

Revelation 1:11
"...I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven
churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea."

1 Timothy 3:15
"but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the
church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth."

The
local church (assembly of Christians) is comprised of saved and baptised (water immersed) believers that are gathered unto the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ is the Head of a local company of believers, and this is symbolically displayed on the heads of men and women who are in the fellowship of the local assembly according to 1Corinthians 11:3-16.

Every local church (assembly) is autonomous and directly answerable to its Head, which is Christ Jesus the Lord.
